Few would disagree that the protection of confidential information is a difficult area of the law, one which has been made even more so by the trend in recent years to use the equitable doctrine of confidence to protect privacy interests. Discerning the impact of the privacy cases, and trying to make sense of the law of confidence as a whole, is a challenging task. As Paul Stanley observes, Above all, now, the law of confidentiality needs systematic treatment. As such, in writing this book, the author has sought to provide a brief and systematic exposition of core principles, with a focus which is practical without being entirely uncritical (Preface). The way in which the author has structured the book reflects this aim since the text is presented as a pseudo-code, with accompanying
